Senior Research Associate/Associate Scientist, Preclinical Formulation Development
Skills
- Hands-on experience preparing preclinical formulations for small molecules
- Practical use of analytical techniques: HPLC/UPLC, UV-Vis, DSC, XRPD, PLM
- Experience with solubility, dissolution, particle size and chemical stability testing
- Data analysis using Excel, Prism or similar software
- Basic understanding of PK and biopharmaceutics principles
- Familiarity with GLP/GMP documentation and lab notebook practices
- Ability to manage multiple parallel tasks and meet timelines
- Strong written and oral communication and cross-functional collaboration
- Independent bench work capability and basic equipment troubleshooting
- Coordination with external labs and service vendors
Responsibilities
- Prepare stage-appropriate preclinical formulations (solutions, suspensions, emulsions, nanoparticles, SEDDS) for oral and parenteral small-molecule studies at small scale
- Author protocols and templated memos/reports for internal and external formulation activities
- Characterize drug substances using HPLC/UPLC, XRPD, DSC, PLM and assess solubility, dissolution, particle size and chemical stability
- Provide routine lab support including buffer and mobile phase preparation, pH meter calibration, equipment troubleshooting, and vendor coordination
- Coordinate shipping/receiving of samples with internal and external sites
- Summarize and present experimental results at team and department meetings
- Maintain detailed lab notebooks and records in compliance with GLP/GMP guidelines (as applicable)
- Evaluate novel drug delivery systems (lipid-based, amorphous solid dispersions, spray drying) for poorly soluble compounds
- Support bridging studies and transition of formulations from discovery to clinical development
- Design and execute focused experiments to advance cross-functional formulation initiatives
Education
- B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline (required)
- Relevant industry or government lab experience in small-molecule formulation (preferred at higher levels)
