Step into a critical role where your technical expertise powers real impact. As an Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Engineer at Evonik’s Chester, PA site, you’ll take ownership of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems that keep our operations running safely and efficiently. You’ll lead hands-on improvements, guide cross-functional collaboration, and help shape a culture rooted in safety, trust, and technical excellence. Whether you're solving complex issues, mentoring technicians, or optimizing energy use, your work will directly support Evonik’s performance, sustainability goals, and long-term success.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee design, installation, and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation systems, including DCS, PLCs, HMIs, and MCCs.
Act as a technical leader for the I&E technician team (union employees), providing hands-on support and helping prioritize work across routine and emergency tasks.
Troubleshoot complex electrical and instrumentation issues and lead resolution in collaboration with engineering, contractors, and maintenance teams.
Maintain detailed documentation of electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and control panel layouts.
Lead or support preventative maintenance (PM) programs to enhance equipment uptime and reduce unplanned downtime.
Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, ISO 50001, and other applicable codes, standards, and safety protocols.
Drive energy efficiency and reliability improvements through root cause analysis, risk-based maintenance strategies, and data-driven performance evaluations.
Execute capital projects including scope development, cost estimation, contractor management, and technical review.
Provide mentorship and training to engineers and maintenance personnel; support site GMP and food safety procedures.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, EHS, Quality, and Logistics teams, as well as with global engineering and energy optimization groups.
REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering strongly preferred; related degrees considered with significant, demonstrated electrical system experience.
Experience: 5+ years in manufacturing with maintenance, reliability, or instrumentation and electrical focus.
Proficiency in control systems such as DeltaV, Siemens, Yokogawa, or Allen-Bradley
Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, ISO 50001, and energy-reduction strategies
Experience with PR/PO processes, contractor oversight, permitting, and safety programs
Experience in Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies; familiarity with SPC, MTBF, and/or related statistical tools.
Tools & Systems: SAP, Excel, PowerPoint, PowerApps, and LIMS familiarity is a plus.
