Epoch AI is looking for a Researcher to help our Consultations and Insights team field requests from external organizations.
Application Deadline: October 24, 2025, at the end of day in your local time zone.
Please do not include a cover letter, photograph, or headshot of yourself, or any personal information that is not relevant to the role for which you're applying (including marital status, age, identity traits, etc.).
About the role and team
We are looking for a Researcher to help us inform various stakeholders about their areas of concern in AI. You will work closely with JS Denain, one of our Senior Researchers, as we expand our external consultations program.
This role is fully remote, and we are able to hire in many countries. We invite anyone who is interested to apply, regardless of background, experience, or credentials. We provide decision-makers with rapid, authoritative analysis of AI developments. Our partners include governments, investors, AI developers, non-profits, and other organizations navigating the AI landscape.
Our work takes several forms:
On-demand, rapid-turnaround research where clients ask specific questions via Slack and receive analysis within a day. Queries can include: reviewing an analysis, quickly estimating a quantity, doing due diligence on some technical claim, asking for more information on previous Epoch AI work.
Rapid intelligence briefs analyzing major AI development, typically delivered within a few days of major releases. For example, after a model comes out, we often brief partners on whether it is off-trend in terms of capabilities or algorithmic efficiency.
Deep-dive research reports on strategic questions like trends in RL scaling, AI power demand, training compute, or 2030 forecasts.
Consultation calls: We offer 1-hour private calls where clients get targeted analysis on AI questions of their choice.
We research questions spanning the entire AI pipeline: from compute stocks and datacenter power requirements, to model capabilities and benchmark analysis, to adoption trends and economic impacts.
Compensation
Annual salary around $100,000 USD, or potentially higher for candidates with multiple years of particularly relevant experience.
Salaries are not restricted to USD, and contracts and payments are usually in local currencies. Conversions are based on one-year average exchange rates.
Other Benefits
Fully remote environment, including flexible work hours and schedules.
For this role, we can support relocation and sponsor visas in the US and the UK.
Competitive global benefits program, including a comprehensive health insurance program with supplemental benefits specific to your local country, as available and mandated by local law, as well as life insurance and a pension plan, if applicable in your country.
Generous paid time off (PTO), including at least 30 days off per year, with no specific limit on paid time off per year and unlimited personal and sick leave.
Parental leave: up to 6 months of a combination of paid and unpaid parental leave during the first 2 years after child's birth or adoption.
A flexible and generous expense policy for you to spend on equipment and a large range of productivity tools or learning/development opportunities you might find valuable.
Paid work trips, including 3 staff retreats per year and relevant conferences.
Access to very well-equipped offices in Berkeley, California—including paid meals, snacks, gym, and more—or access to a similar coworking space in your location.
Other benefits as allowed at the discretion of Epoch AI’s leadership and local availability.
A supportive and energized team that is excited about the work we are doing and our mission.
