About the Position: Children’s Funding Project seeks an Associate, Federal Fiscal Data to support the organization’s work on federal funding, policy research, and analysis. The Associate will be responsible for updating, maintaining, and disseminating all federal products. Under the direction of the Manager of Federal Fiscal Data, the Associate will serve as a contributor to emergent and ongoing federal funding research and policy projects as the organization expands its tools and approaches. Additionally, the Associate will develop talking points, memos, tools, and other public-facing content to support clients in effectively conducting their own analyses and communications to advocates, policymakers, and other stakeholders at the national, state, Tribal, and local levels. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Manager of Federal Fiscal Data.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct and coordinate applied fiscal research on federal funding, law, and policy, including tracking and analyses on the flow of federal funding and developing grounded research-informed strategies and recommendations in support of client- and partner-based work, and the organization’s strategic goals, priorities, and strategies.
• Serve as a junior in-house expert on federal funding and policy, and technical expertise partner in support of the development of other content areas (including state, local, and tribal funding). This requires the development of deep background knowledge on major federal child and youth programs and staying abreast of federal policy issues relevant to the child and youth space, funding, budgeting, and grantmaking.
• Update and maintain federal fiscal tools. This may include, but is not limited to: adding new data, cleaning existing data, implementing updates, performing analyses, preparing tools and updates for publication, and collecting and analyzing user feedback.
• Contribute to new products based on federal funding and policy for children and youth, such as blogs, factsheets, memos, data tools, and infographics.
• Prepare background materials and presentations for internal staff, clients, and other partners.
• Support alignment of federal projects and products with strategic plan goals, priorities, and strategies, and other workflows and projects on other teams, including the Native Children and Youth project and the State Fiscal Mapping Cohort.
• Serve as a contributing partner in the conceptualization, execution, and evaluation of emergent and ongoing projects that fall within the Federal Fiscal Policy team’s portfolio.
• Manage the Federal Fiscal Policy team’s contacts within CFP’s CRM on Monday.com.
• Assist in or participate in public engagement activities, representing the organization at conferences, webinars, events, and workshops.
• Contribute to other projects as assigned.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

• An interest in and a commitment to building expertise in child and youth financing policies and strategies as demonstrated by a higher education degree in a relevant area (ex. public policy, education, political science) and/or at least 3 years of professional experience in a social services or public policy field (ex. system needs assessments, cost analysis, fund administration, and/or research).
• A basic knowledge of how child and youth supports are funded at the federal level, including an understanding of the federal budgeting process, the federal regulatory process, and the structure of the federal government.
• Demonstrated experience with task management to ensure project success.
• Good interpersonal skills and comfort with facilitating collaborative conversations.
• Experience with and ongoing interest in data analysis, visualization, and communication using Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and other software applications.
• Compelling professional oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely summarize complex policy information for a variety of internal and external audiences.
• Demonstrated attention to detail.

• Team-oriented attitude with an ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Excellent time management and record-keeping skills.

LOCATION: This is a fully remote position (employee may work anywhere within the continental U.S.). Some domestic travel is required.

COMPENSATION: This position falls into the associate level of our salary structure with a starting full-time annual salary of $58,000.
