Overview

Bryant University invites applications and nominations for the position of External Fellow in AI and Pedagogy , a key role in a three-year, grant-funded initiative through the Davis Educational Foundation: Leveraging Generative AI to Support Academic Success and Persistence of First-Year Students . This project aims to build discipline-specific, AI-powered tutoring systems in high-impact first-year courses and to develop faculty capacity for integrating generative AI in ways that promote ethical, equitable, and effective learning. We welcome applications from both academic scholars and accomplished industry professionals with a national or emerging reputation in generative AI, educational technology, or AI-driven innovation. The External Fellow will serve as a strategic advisor, trainer, and evaluator, collaborating with Bryant’s Center for Teaching Excellence, Academic Affairs leadership, and a cross-functional team of faculty and staff. This role offers the opportunity to shape a high-impact, institution-wide initiative and contribute to the national conversation on responsible AI in education.

Key Responsibilities

The External Fellow will:

  • Advise on the integration of generative AI into first-year and General Education curricula.
  • Collaborate on the design and assessment of AI-powered tutoring tools to support student success and reduce DFW rates in gateway courses.
  • Lead professional development for faculty across disciplines, with emphasis on ethical, inclusive, and practical applications of AI.
  • Mentor a cohort of departmental AI Faculty Fellows serving as peer leaders.
  • Partner with institutional offices to evaluate impact on student outcomes, faculty adoption, and curricular innovation.
  • Contribute to publications, presentations, and a regional symposium showcasing project outcomes.
  • Represent Bryant in national conversations on the responsible use of AI in higher education.

Appointment Details

  • Three-year appointment (2025–2028), aligned with the project grant timeline.

Qualifications

  • National recognition or demonstrated leadership in the development, application, or integration of generative AI in education, technology, or related fields.
  • Deep understanding of AI’s ethical, societal, and educational implications, including issues of bias, accessibility, and academic integrity.
  • Experience advising on or implementing institution-wide innovations, whether in academic, nonprofit, or industry settings.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of working across disciplines or sectors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with educational contexts—whether in higher education, corporate training, or workforce development—particularly those focused on early-stage learning or foundational skills.
  • Knowledge of AI literacy frameworks and/or experience developing tools, platforms, or strategies that support user engagement and skill-building.
  • Experience leading professional development, technical training, or change management initiatives at scale.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across sectors, institutions, or disciplines on projects involving emerging technologies, education, or social impact.
