This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will join our Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) team with an emphasis in Modeling & Simulation. You will share in the team’s impact on multidisciplinary models and simulations on multiple platforms for spacecraft from Earth to the Moon! You will work with software-in-the-loop simulations, hardware-in-the-loop labs, and on-vehicle simulations. Expect to collaborate closely with other subsystems and spacecraft systems engineers to support the development of subsystem boundaries, interfaces, and technical performance measures. In this capacity, you will be responsible for exemplifying best practices, balanced technical judgment, and superior work ethic.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Being actively involved in the development of the tools needed to design, build, deploy and support our unique and state-of-the art simulation infrastructure
  • Developing and integrating multidisciplinary models for a multi-vehicle simulation using Simulink and C/C++
  • Collaboratively delivering our simulations to our customers to inform decisions and ensure requirements are met
  • Interacting with engineers across disciplines to assist with and ensure validation of models

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or Computer Science
  • 5+ years of software development and debugging skills, particularly in C/C++, MATLAB, and Simulink
  • Experience auto coding Simulink to C++
  • Strong fundamentals in rigid body dynamics, fluid mechanics, and 1st principles physics-based mathematical models
  • Hands-on experience with testing frameworks and Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines such as Gitlab
  • Experience with configuration management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or higher degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Strong debugging skills at the software/hardware boundary, and familiarity with software verification approaches
  • Experience developing software for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with verification and validation of aerospace simulations and models
  • Experience developing and maintaining simulation models including plant physics, sensors, and actuators
  • Familiarity with DO-178, DO-160, and DO-254 or similar guidelines


 

Compensation Range for:

CO applicants is $116,323.00-$162,851.85;WA applicants is $126,898.00-$177,656.85

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical

  • Paid Time Off:  Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
