Tell us about yourself 🎒
Hey everyone, I'm currently a sophomore at UMD studying computer science, minoring in business analytics. For summer of 2024, I am interning at Amazon as a software engineer at their second headquarters in Arlington Virginia. I am originally from New Jersey, but I frequently visit NYC as I am a huge fan of the city life. One of my biggest passions is dancing as I have been ballroom dancing since I was 6, and I teach the ballroom dancing club at my university as well as indulge in other styles of dance. I also enjoy going to the gym, cooking, music, and as of recently I have been getting into clothing and developing my personal style.
What's your major and university? 🎓
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science, Minor in Business Analytics - University of Maryland College Park
Describe yourself in three words 🔮
Clever, Creative, Versatile
A day in the life: Tell us about a typical day as an intern at Amazon 🌞
A day in my life at college usually starts around 10am, where I wake up, wash up, eat something very light and go to the gym. I then take a shower, choose a fit and head out of my apartment to my classes. Around 1pm I would grab lunch with friends then either head back to the apartment or any building on campus to grind out some work. Once its 4pm, I would either have club meetings, or a meeting for my honors class. After that, I would grab dinner and continue with my work or just lounge around with my friends. I would finish the day with some last night snack like boba or watch a movie with my apartment roommates around 12am.
Internships: What excites you the most about your internship? 🎉
One of the biggest factors that make me excited about my internship is the location. Not only is Arlington Virginia the second headquarters of Amazon, but its close to my current apartment and also near my other friends who are interning at nearby companies like Capital One or KPMG. The area of Northern Virginia is a hotspot for this summer and having that proximity to your friends only makes the summer better. Another factor that makes me excited is the opportunity to learn technologies that are currently in the market and very applicable. I have a genuine interest in always learning new things regardless, and so I am very eager to get started this summer.
Advice: What's one piece of advice or tip you'd give to yourself or other students? 💼
Avoid comparing yourself to others or lamenting your current circumstances. Entering college, I felt like I was at a disadvantage in securing a promising job post-graduation. Yet, I soon recognized that complaining on past decisions and my current situation was only detrimental to my progress. The best possible path I could've taken and did take was to make the most of my current situation so that I can open more doors for myself in the future and propel my career. Many around me view their current state as an end all be all, failing to see the possibilities for growth. They consistently linger on what is, rather than what could be. Remember, everyone has their own life clock, and never believe that you're trapped by your current life situation.
Shoutouts: Who has been an advocate and supporter of you? 📣
My biggest supporter of course has been my family, including my father, mother and sister. I would also contribute my success to my closes friends including: Akarsh Srivastava Ethan Le James Zhang
