The Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division at Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for a Postdoctoral Appointee position. The successful candidate will conduct research, under mentorship, on supported inorganic and organometallic catalysts for small molecule activation as part of the EFRC Catalyst Design for Decarbonization Center (CD4DC) initiative.
Key Responsibilities
Design, synthesize, and characterize metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for catalytic applications
Evaluate catalytic activity for hydrocarbon conversion and hydrogen (H2) storage in liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs)
Perform detailed studies to understand reaction mechanisms, determine reaction kinetics, and measure the heat of adsorption of LOHCs in porous materials
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the EFRC center
Present research findings in reports, peer-reviewed publications, and at scientific conferences
Position Requirements
Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (within the last 0-5 years) in field of organic, organometallic, or inorganic chemistry
Expertise in the synthesis and characterization of MOFs and air-sensitive transition metal complexes
Experience in conducting kinetic and mechanistic studies of catalytic systems
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork
Familiarity with ligand design, MOF synthesis, and analytical techniques such as:
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy
Infrared (IR) and Raman Spectroscopy
Powder X-Ray Diffraction (PXRD)
Preferred Skills
Demonstrated ability to independently design and execute experiments
Proficiency in analyzing reaction mechanisms and kinetics
Experience with air-sensitive materials and advanced characterization techniques
