Technology Intern

Our 10-week summer intern program provides real-life experience in a collaborative and inclusive environment. Over the course of your internship, you will gain exposure to leaders, cultivate your business knowledge, work on projects that directly impact the business you support, and network in a welcoming atmosphere. Ameriprise Financial has a global Technology team delivering technology solutions to support the evolving needs of our clients, advisors, and employees.

Technology Internship opportunities vary each year and may include the following job functions:

• Architecture
• Business and Data Analytics
• API and Database development
• Cloud Infrastructure
• Information Security
• Software/application development
• Front-end/back-end development

Key Responsibilities

As a Technology intern, you will gain exposure to Ameriprise tools, applications, and software, contribute to team goals, and deliver projects and technology solutions – all while gaining a broad understanding of the Ameriprise Technology organization. At the end of your internship, you will present your work and reflect on your experience to our Technology leadership team.

Responsibilities vary depending on assigned projects(s) and may include:

  • Define business requirements
  • Develop, document, test, and modify new or existing code
  • Develop working knowledge of Ameriprise systems, processes, data, and vendor tools
  • Learn and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to the development life cycle
  • Learn new programming languages
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement/automation
  • Participate in Agile team ceremonies

Examples of past intern projects include:

  • Automated cloud activity monitoring
  • Automated test framework
  • Catalog builder
  • Customer analytics analysis
  • Cloud storage relationship model proof of concept
  • Inactive account auditing and decommission
  • Automation of server start-up/shutdown and testing
  • Build and test web application features
  • Create dashboard reporting using PowerBI
  • Create new intake and tracking system
  • Internal discovery search integration implementation and testing
  • SharePoint development

Required Qualifications

  • Current Junior at a 4-year university pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Information Science, Information Technology Infrastructure, or related field
  • Graduation date of December 2026 or May/June 2027
  • Interested in gaining broad experience in Technology

Preferred Qualifications

  • High degree of self-motivation with strong integrity and ethics
  • Proven organization skills and ability to manage time effectively
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work and communicate collaboratively and constructively with others
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Prior classroom or project experience with software development/programming/coding

The company does not offer corporate undergraduate internships for students with F-1 visas.

Base Pay Salary

The estimated base salary range for this role is $35/hr. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
