AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Tunnel Resident Engineer for construction inspection services to oversee the construction of new tunnels in Austin, Texas. The job is on-site and full-time.
Job Responsibilities
The Tunnel Resident Engineer is a full-time on-site role. The Tunnel Resident Engineer will be responsible for conducting routine inspections of civil infrastructure, identifying defects and potential hazards, and documenting contract compliance. The Tunnel Resident Engineer will also be responsible for producing detailed reports and communicating findings to management. The Tunnel Resident Engineer will have the primary responsibility for assuring quality of the construction.
Additional responsibilities include:
Observes Contractor’s construction activities
Accepts work completed in compliance with contract documents, rejects defective work, maintains log of rejected work, assists with resolution of construction issues
Coordinates with Contractor to identify upcoming work; verifies upcoming work against issued look ahead schedules
Supervises project engineers for near surface and tunnelling work
Reviews contract requirements, submittals, shop drawings, and other associated documentation
Communicates daily with AECOM’s Project Manager and Contractor's field team in execution of their duties
Tracks progress of work in field. Monitors Contractor’s adherence to schedule and provides input on Contractor’s payment requests
Inspects work for conformance with contract documents, approved change orders, clarifications, etc.; identifies and reports all nonconforming work; documents all work with daily reports, photos and videos
Tracks and verifies Contractor time and material or force account work.
Conducts inspections to ensure that the work is performed in compliance with the contract documents.
Ensures delivered materials comply with approved submittals, TxDOT standards and is the correct product from approved vendors
Observes and approves Contractor’s testing and QA/QC activities
Schedules and monitors AECOM quality assurance testing of materials
Maintains necessary project documentation, including daily, weekly, and monthly reports and logs.
Prepares other required field documentation as necessary
Provides input for construction changes. Assist with preparation and negotiation of field orders and change orders
Tracking quantities installed on daily basis and prepare T&M reports as appropriate
Observes implementation of health and safety procedures and practices.
Verifies Contractor maintenance of As-Built drawings; confirm with Contractor that this is being carried out; review look-ahead schedules. Verification that work is in accordance with the approved shop drawing and sample Submittals
Minimum Requirements
BA/BS + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Texas PE.
Motor vehicle check required.
OSHA 30-hour Construction Health and Safety Course.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong oral and written communication skills.
10+ years of experience in Heavy Civil Construction and Construction of Tunnels.
Physical fitness and the ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
Knowledge and experience with Scheduling software (i.e. Microsoft Project), Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience with tunnel design.
Basic engineering knowledge in civil works and geotechnics.
Experience as a Resident Engineer or Construction Manager on projects of at least $100 million.
Technical understanding of Tunnelling and Mining Construction.
Knowledge and experience with the manufacture of Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) and one pass TBM mining with Precast Tunnel Lining segments.
Knowledge and experience with hard rock Sequential Excavation Methods.
Knowledge and experience with large diameter shaft construction using secant, liner plate, shotcrete, and rock bolt mythologies.
Organizational ability – able to plan, prioritize, organize, and monitor activities and projects.
Able to work well in a group environment and foster a team approach.
