We are building Adaptive Intelligence. We believe the future is adaptive, and not one-size-fits-all. We will lead in real-time efficient adaptation that combines algorithm with innovative interface design. We are a global team in both SF and around the world with the best talent in AI innovation. We're backed by top-tier investors and ready to scale our impact.
The Role
Adaptive intelligence depends upon reimagining feedback and interaction. The future of AI is interaction will be determined by combining algorithm with interface design. Our founding design engineer will shape how users experience adaptive intelligence. The design should spark joy, and empower everyday users to shape AI to fit their needs. As a Design Engineer, you’ll bridge the gap between design vision and technical implementation. You’ll collaborate closely with research and engineering teams to prototype, test, and ship innovative features. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both hands-on coding and thoughtful design problem-solving. We're inventing new AI-powered workflows. This means prototyping, testing, and refining interactions that don't yet have established patterns.
Responsibilities
Prototype and deliver production-quality UI: Rapidly design, refine, and ship interfaces that are not only visually polished but also robust. Pay close attention to the fine details—typography, color systems, layout, animation, and motion—ensuring that every element supports speed, clarity, and usability.
Collaborate across disciplines: Partner closely with researchers, and engineers to explore innovative interaction models. Use experimentation, prototyping, and iteration to uncover new possibilities for how people engage with our products.
Own end-to-end impact. You won’t simply implement specifications passed down from others. Instead, you’ll actively shape what gets built—contributing to design decisions, influencing user experience, and driving execution from concept through launch.
Define the future of human–AI interaction: Take on the challenge of inventing new interaction paradigms that go beyond today’s conventions. Your work will help define how people understand, collaborate with, and trust AI systems in ways that feel intuitive, natural, and empowering.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience with front-end frameworks (React, Vue, or similar) and/or rapid prototyping tools
Solid understanding of design principles, usability, and accessibility
Experience working across the design–engineering boundary (building prototypes, implementing design systems, or similar)
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to communicate complex ideas clearly
Competitive salary + meaningful equity
Budget for learning, development, and certifications
Opportunity to define and own foundational design decisions
If an employer mentions a salary or salary range on their job, we display it as an "Employer Estimate". If a job has no salary data, Rise displays an estimate if available.
