On-Call Phlebotomist
Overview
Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is recruiting an On-Call Phlebotomist. Performs laboratory venipunctures and micro-phlebotomy procedures and processes specimens. Performs laboratory office duties.
Responsibilities
- Performs laboratory venipunctures and micro-phlebotomy procedures.
- Processes specimens and facilitates transportation to the hospitals.
- Checks patients in and out of the laboratory.
- Organizes and maintains inventory and logs for the department.
- Availability to work occasional overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
- Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma plus a minimum of one year experience as a phlebotomist.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:
- Phlebotomist certification, preferred.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and proficiency in laboratory venipunctures.
- Knowledge and proficiency in operation of centrifuge, DCA 2000, LIS system, fax machine, and computers and links to the hospital systems as required by the department.
- Ability to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing.
- Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
- Ability to interpret, comprehend, and transmit complicated and detailed instructions accurately.
- Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of work flow.
- Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision.
