- Advanced MariaDB/MySQL administration at scale, including complex replication
- Strong SQL proficiency and experience optimizing queries and schemas
- Experience with high-traffic, highly available website architectures
- Linux systems knowledge, storage and I/O troubleshooting
- Monitoring, alerting and observability for databases
- Experience with backup/restore strategies and capacity planning
- Experience working in distributed, asynchronous teams and ticketing systems
Responsibilities
- Ensure health, availability, and performance of production relational database systems and data integrity
- Deploy, maintain and troubleshoot MariaDB/MySQL in production, staging and development environments
- Design, implement, manage and automate multi-site replication topologies
- Consult on database schema and query design; plan and implement schema changes in production
- Monitor, debug and optimize query performance and database operations
- Improve observability through alerting, metrics and monitoring for database infrastructure
- Capacity and infrastructure planning, including on-prem bare-metal hardware
- Automate common database management workflows and operational runbooks
- Manage reliable backups and timely restoration procedures
- Maintain relationships with MariaDB upstream projects and collaborate on bug fixes
- Participate in a shared 24/7 on-call rotation and incident response for production outages
Education
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
