Responsibilities
- Communicate patient status, home care instructions, and medication guidance to clients; triage client medical questions and escalate to veterinarians as needed.
- Educate clients on preventative care, vaccines, lab procedures, and practice services; prepare estimates and discuss financial commitments.
- Greet and escort clients and patients, facilitate smooth exam flow, and promote hospital products and programs.
- Safely restrain animals, assist veterinarians with medical, surgical, and dental procedures, and prepare patients for surgery.
- Administer and monitor anesthesia, fluids, and postoperative recovery; place IV catheters and perform emergency treatments as needed.
- Perform laboratory tests, radiographs, and electrocardiograms; maintain accurate patient records in a paperless system.
- Assist with pharmacy tasks including dispensing medications, preparing labels, and packaging prescriptions.
- Maintain surgical materials, hospital equipment, inventory, and ensure treatment and surgery areas are clean and prepared.
- Follow DEA, OSHA, and hospital safety guidelines in daily duties.
Education
- Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) certification preferred
- Open to new graduates from an accredited veterinary technician program
