EHS Engineer
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of California environmental and health/safety regulations
- Experience developing and delivering EHS training tailored to operations
- Expertise in chemical hazard management and Hazard Communication (SDS, labeling)
- Experience managing hazardous waste accumulation and disposal
- Experience with EHS inspections, audits, and corrective action processes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Atlassian suites
- Ability to make technical EHS decisions in ambiguous situations
- Strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills
- Physical ability to perform inspections and lift up to 25 lbs
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal EHS regulations (e.g., Cal/OSHA, Cal/EPA, RCRA, SCAQMD, DOT, CA Fire Code) including recordkeeping and reporting
- Maintain compliance with applicable industry standards (NIOSH, ANSI, NFPA)
- Lead root-cause corrective action (RCCA) investigations and implement corrective measures with leadership
- Oversee hazardous waste accumulation, inspection, and disposal processes
- Design and implement safe handling and processing procedures for pharmaceuticals and chemicals
- Manage Hazard Communication program including SDS management and container labeling
- Develop, administer, and manage EHS training programs and training records
- Coordinate emergency response planning, drills, and first aid/CPR/AED programs
- Support maintenance and inspection of safety equipment (eyewashes, showers, fire suppression, extinguishers)
- Build and maintain EHS data management system and inspection/audit programs
- Develop and run periodic inspection and internal audit programs to proactively identify risks
- Support contractor safety programs and review planned work procedures for adequate controls
- Implement and maintain EHS programs (electrical safety, LOTO, fall protection, PIT, machine guarding, confined spaces, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, air quality, heat illness prevention)
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in an EHS-related field (e.g., occupational safety & health, environmental engineering, physical sciences)
- Preferred: Master’s degree in an EHS-related field
- Preferred: Professional certification such as CSP or CIH
