Purpose

Responsible for executing purchasing duties in support of the University Housing and Dining (UHD) department. Will process requisitions, obtain bids, and make awards of routine purchases. Responsible for developing and maintaining vendor relationships. Communicates purchasing details, status updates, and order discrepancies to requesters.   

Responsibilities

  • Performs and facilitates purchasing activities for the procurement of supplies, materials, equipment, and services in Point Plus or UT Market using best practices and following departmental and University guidelines. Tracks purchase orders. Maintains records of orders and follows up with vendors on shipments and deliveries. Assists receiving with shipment /transportation related discrepancies and variances. Act as liaison for accounting and supplier to resolve issues.   

  • Provides timely and effective communication to customers, suppliers, and requesters. Contacts vendors for bids or product and service availability when needed. Identifies new vendors and facilitates new vendor ID processing requirements. Communicates effectively with supervisor to maintain timely and accurate work processes.

  • Works as a team member and independently to meet UHD business requirements and resolves problems as necessary. Reports issues to supervisor in a timely and effective manner. Supports team members when needed. Other duties as assigned. 

  • Supports team with Business Contracts, State Contract orders, and processing invitations to bid as needed. Applies strategic sourcing and contract management practices ensuring competitive best value principles are effectively that ensure best possible goods and services are obtained at the most reasonable cost.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 1 year of purchasing experience

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 or more years of purchasing experience.

  • Knowledge of university purchasing processes.

  • Experience working in a student services environment.

  • Experience using *DEFINE, Point Plus, and/or UT Market.

  • Demonstrated ability to execute business contracts.

  • Experience conducting bidding.

  • Certified Texas Contract Developer or Certified Texas Contract Manager. 

Salary Range

$44,500+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • May work in all weather conditions 

  • May work around standard office conditions   

  • Repetitive use of keyboard at a workstation     

  • Use of manual dexterity

Work Shift

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM. Hours and days may vary due to business needs.

Employment Eligibility:
