Who we're looking for
Toyota’s Systems and Electronics Planning 4 Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineer – Systems and Electronics Planning.
The primary responsibility of this role is to design and integrate electrical components across multiple vehicle and mobility platforms—ensuring quality, performance, cost, and timing targets are met. This includes packaging ECUs and sensors, routing wire harnesses, and developing related components.
Reporting to the Sr. Manager, the person in this role will support SEP4’s mission to deliver innovative and reliable electrical systems that power Toyota’s next-generation vehicles.
What you'll be doing
In this role, you’ll be at the heart of Toyota’s vehicle development process, collaborating with cross-functional teams and suppliers to bring cutting-edge electrical systems to life. Success means delivering high-quality designs that meet performance and cost targets while driving innovation and efficiency.
Design and package electrical components including ECUs, sensors, and wire harnesses across multiple platforms
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop packaging structures and manage complex engineering schedules
Create 3D design data and 2D drawings using Catia V5 and CR5000
Apply Toyota’s TBP process to analyze problems, propose solutions, and contribute to obeya meetings with engineers and suppliers
Manage part development from concept to production, ensuring targets for cost, mass, and performance are met
Communicate clearly and frequently with project leaders, manufacturing teams, suppliers, and global partners including TMC Japan
Support production vehicle trials and ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into final builds
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Aeronautical Engineering
3+ years of vehicle development experience, including at least one major program
2+ years of experience working directly with suppliers
Strong understanding of vehicle development and manufacturing processes
Proficiency in Catia for 3D modeling and drawing preparation, and CR5000 (Toyota drawing experience preferred)
Experience supporting production vehicle trials
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Added Bonus If You Have
Master’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline
Experience with Toyota’s full vehicle development lifecycle (AS, K4, SE, GENZU, CV, 1A, MPT, QCS)
Leadership experience with variable workforce or Design-In members
Knowledge of wire harness development and manufacturing processes
Experience negotiating with CALTY and cross-functional departments
Hands-on design experience with ADAS systems (e.g., Panoramic View Monitor, Sonar, Blind Spot Monitor, Headlamp ECU)
Knowledge of TBP Panel completion in the engineering field
Japanese language proficiency (N5–N1 level)
