Job Description

This position is 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.  

 

As a Special Procedures Nurse, you will be responsible for providing nursing care that is goal-directed and adapted to the needs of an individual, and  family  during health and illness. 

 

In this role under the direction of an Attending Physician or a licensed independent practitioner, RN provides technically complex and high risk nursing care services to patients which may include one or more of the following categories:  sedation, intravenous infusions, complex procedures, e.g., TEE, Vascular procedures, IV insertions, Stress echos; This may also include specialized monitoring during procedure and recovery phase.

Supports outpatient ambulatory physician in clinic, manages the in basket messages from patients. Assists with scheduling procedures. Collaborate with team members for coverage of their providers.

  • Handles confidential information consistent with Federal HIPAA legislation.
  • Performs a variety of clinical and research procedures with efficiency and high standards of quality; assures that the proper protocol is used for each sedation.
  • Provides patient care in a compassionate and empathetic manner; demonstrates knowledge of age-specific considerations in the provision of care. Involves a multidisciplinary team as needed to support patient and family psychological, social and spiritual needs.
  • Accurately completes required patient assessment, documentation, and interpretations for each patient encounter. Possesses sound professional judgment for timely physician intervention as needed. Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate actions, initiates appropriate life supporting interventions while communicating appropriately with physicians.
  • Maintains nursing equipment and work areas in proper working condition; reports malfunctioning equipment or housekeeping issues to the appropriate person. Maintains a neat and clean work area with equipment. Maintains adequate inventory control of all necessary supplies. Emergency equipment maintained with adequate availability, good working order and restocks as needed with a fiscal awareness and accountability.
  • Interfaces with customers, specifically patients, families, visitors, and UCMC staff in a professional, positive and accommodating manner; demonstrates knowledge of AIDET principles and employs in all situations; demonstrates flexibility in accommodating special needs of customers whenever possible.
  • Performs all required Quality Assurance testing as indicated or as required by UCMC

 

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred.
    • Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program.
  • Current RN Illinois license
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing
  • Current BLS, ACLS with American Heart Association

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in IV insertions
  • 2 years experience in cardiology

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
