Skills
- Strong fundamentals in solid mechanics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics
- Hands-on experience with GD&T, detailed part drawings, and mechanical design for manufacture
- CNC programming and machining process development (lathes, mills, probing)
- Design and implementation of automated test systems and qualification tests under flight-like conditions
- Experience with cryogenic systems and high-pressure fluid hardware
- Experience with energetic materials/explosives or willingness to obtain ATF clearance
- Data analysis skills for failure investigation (able to interpret tabular and graphical datasets)
- Proficiency in engineering tools such as ANSYS and scripting in Python or SQL
Responsibilities
- Design and develop flow-control devices (valves, regulators, pumps, solenoids) and mechanical actuators for Starship and Super Heavy systems
- Translate requirements into manufacturable architectures, drawings (GD&T), and qualification plans
- Partner with production to improve yield, implement DFM feedback, tooling, work instructions, and automation for higher cadence
- Develop and execute qualification and acceptance tests (vibration, thermal, life, cryogenic, shock) and build automated test systems
- Perform root cause investigations on factory and flight hardware and implement corrective actions to prevent repeat failures
- Define manufacturing strategies (casting, forging, CNC machining), program CNC, select tooling, and enable lights-out machining
- Design and validate flight termination explosive devices and integrated detonator systems with rigorous live-fire and environmental testing
- Collaborate cross-functionally with stage, avionics, flight safety, and suppliers to inform system architecture and hardware requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in physics or an engineering discipline (required)
- 5+ years professional experience in mechanical systems manufacturing, testing, design, or machining (required)
