Manufacturing Engineer (Falcon 9 Integration) - 2nd Shift

SpaceX is developing the technologies to enable humanity’s exploration of space and ultimately extend life to other planets. The Manufacturing Engineer (Falcon 9 Integration) will own the relationship between production and design teams, develop and qualify manufacturing processes, resolve non-conformances, and implement tooling and test solutions to support high-quality, high-volume vehicle assembly on the second shift.

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (mechanical, aerospace, manufacturing, industrial, electrical, or chemical)
  • 1+ years engineering experience in manufacturing, design, or development (internships included)
  • Experience with 3D CAD for mechanical component and tooling design
  • Knowledge of metallic manufacturing techniques (welding, metal forming, fastening, drilling, bonding)
  • Familiarity with DFMA and creating work instructions/procedures
  • Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and process implementation skills
  • Ability to work second shift (3:30PM–1:30AM) and extended hours/weekends as needed
  • US work-authorization consistent with ITAR requirements

Responsibilities

  • Own build and inspection processes for structural assembly and integration of the Falcon launch vehicle
  • Develop, qualify, and refine manufacturing processes to meet safety, quality, efficiency, and delivery goals
  • Collaborate with design engineers, subject matter experts, and technicians to resolve production challenges
  • Evaluate designs for manufacturability and implement changes in a rapidly evolving production environment
  • Troubleshoot product non-conformances and partner with Quality to implement root-cause corrective actions
  • Design and implement tooling, test solutions, and work instructions to enable consistent high-quality builds
  • Plan and execute capital equipment, machine, layout upgrades, and capacity/product flow analysis
  • Support transition of hardware from R&D to high-volume manufacturing

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, manufacturing, electrical, aerospace, or industrial engineering (required)
  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline (preferred)
