This role is perfect for a creative and meticulous editor who is passionate about creating sound and engaging assessments that reflect what students know and can do.

You will manage the content creation lifecycle of assessments, from initial concept and manuscript to the final, polished product. This involves guiding internal writers and external vendors, editing content to align with our product vision, and ensuring every assessment is delivered on time and within budget.

You will report to the Editorial Director and collaborate with a talented cross-functional team of Editors, Designers, and Project Managers to bring our next generation of literacy tools to life.

What You'll Do (Primary Responsibilities):

  • Assessment Development and Strategy: Conceptualize, plan, and prototype innovative and instructionally valuable assessment materials for 6-12 ELA, including diagnostic, formative, and summative formats.
  • Content Creation and Editing: Write, edit, and rewrite assessment items, passages and teacher-facing materials, ensuring they are clear, accurate, grade-level appropriate, and free from bias.
  • Standards Alignment: Perform and manage correlations to Common Core and state standards, ensuring our assessments are relevant and meet market needs.
  • Vendor and Writer Management: Supervise the work of internal writers and development vendors, providing clear guidelines and constructive feedback to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Quality Assurance: Serve as the quality check for assessment content, rigorously monitoring for content accuracy, pedagogical soundness, and stylistic consistency.
  • Project Management: Collaborate with Project Managers to develop and maintain schedules, track budgets, and ensure project milestones are met.
  • Market Responsiveness: Work with the product team to analyze customer feedback and market trends, ensuring the assessments you develop are effective and responsive to the needs of students and teachers.

What You'll Bring (Required Knowledge and Experience):

  • A Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of editorial experience in educational publishing or ed tech, with a proven track record of developing ELA assessments
  • Deep pedagogical knowledge of secondary English Language Arts, including literary analysis, reading comprehension strategies, and writing instruction.
  • Familiarity with the literary canon and literary elements and skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in assessment design principles and best practices for creating valid and reliable assessments.
  • Classroom teaching experience in grades 6–12 ELA is preferred.
  • Experience developing assessments for multilingual learners is a plus.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Exceptional Writing and Editing: You have a superb command of the English language, with the ability to write and edit with clarity, precision, and an engaging tone.
  • Strategic Thinker: You can think strategically to plan and execute on a project vision while managing multiple priorities and meeting ambitious deadlines.
  • Collaborative Spirit: You are an excellent verbal communicator and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
  • Tech Proficiency: You are proficient in G-Suite (including Gemini) and Adobe Acrobat. Experience with content management systems, Smartsheet, and JIRA is desirable.
  • User-Focused: You have a strong sense of empathy for users and can advocate for the needs of students and teachers throughout the product development process.
