Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Cardiology Pre- and Post-Operative Unit is responsible for delivering safe, compassionate, and high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing cardiac diagnostic and interventional procedures. The RN provides pre-operative assessments, patient/family education, intra-procedural support, and post-operative recovery care. This role requires strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to respond quickly to changes in patient condition.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive pre-operative assessments, including patient history, medication reconciliation, allergies, and risk factors.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding upcoming procedures, post-operative care instructions, and lifestyle considerations.
  • Prepare patients for cardiac catheterizations, electrophysiology studies, pacemaker/ICD placements, and other interventional cardiology procedures.
  • Initiate and maintain IV access, administer medications, and monitor patient vital signs.
  • Provide post-procedure monitoring in the recovery area, ensuring safe stabilization and discharge readiness.
  • Manage pain, nausea, and potential post-operative complications in accordance with established protocols.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Document all nursing assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic medical record (EMR) accurately and timely.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards of care, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support a patient-centered environment that fosters safety, dignity, and trust.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

 

1.  Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN); preferred.

2.  Active state Registered Nursing (RN) License; required.

3.  Current BCLS (AHA), ACLS certificate upon hire and maintain current; required.

4.  One (1) year clinical experience in a Cardiovascular Lab doing cardiac work or in a Critical Care area; required.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $35.35 to $53.58. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
