Our mission is to be the TV streaming platform that connects the entire TV ecosystem. We connect consumers to the content they love, enable content publishers to build and monetize large audiences, and provide advertisers unique capabilities to engage consumers.

From your first day at Roku, you'll make a valuable - and valued - contribution. We're a fast-growing public company where no one is a bystander. We offer you the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers around the world while gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.

About the Team

Join a high-performing, innovative team that plays a pivotal role in Roku’s mission to be the best TV streaming platform in the world. Our team is responsible for delivering intuitive, high-quality mobile applications that enhance the way millions of users interact with Roku devices globally. We pride ourselves on creating products that “just work” — seamlessly and effortlessly. This commitment to excellence is driven by a collaborative, inclusive, and results-oriented culture where your contributions will directly impact the user experience of millions. If you’re passionate about building products that feel magical and intuitive, this is the team for you.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, Android on the Roku Mobile App team, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of how users interact with Roku streaming devices, smart TVs, and mobile applications. You’ll be responsible for building reliable, high-performance Android experiences that empower customers to control and monitor their Roku devices effortlessly. This role offers the opportunity to work with modern technologies, including Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Google’s latest Android frameworks, while solving challenging problems at scale. You’ll collaborate closely with product, design, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver innovative features and optimize performance. We're looking for a developer who thrives on curiosity and initiative—someone who takes ownership, drives features from concept to completion, and enjoys working in a supportive, team-focused environment. If you’re excited about building impactful, user-centric experiences, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design and develop advanced features and applications for the Android platform to enhance Roku’s mobile experiences
  • Integrate with cloud APIs and local device communication protocols to enable seamless control of Roku devices
  • Write and maintain automated tests using frameworks like JUnit and Espresso to ensure reliability and quality
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and deliver innovative features, optimizing touch interactions and user experiences
  • Debug, profile, and optimize app performance across a diverse range of Android devices to ensure smooth functionality
  • Participate in design and code reviews, contributing to improved code quality and team-wide best practices
  • Stay current with Android platform advancements, tools, and libraries, and propose ways to incorporate them into our products
  • Support roadmap planning, contribute to technical designs, and assist in delivering high-quality releases that delight users

We’re Excited If You Have

  • 3+ years of professional Android development experience, with expertise in Kotlin and/or Jetpack Compose
  • A proven track record of shipping and maintaining production apps in the Google Play Store
  • Experience leveraging AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) to enhance development workflows, including prompt engineering
  • Knowledge of IoT or networked device interactions—experience with BLE, WebSockets, or MQTT protocols is a strong plus
  • Strong proficiency with the Android development toolset, including debugging, profiling, and optimizing apps
  • A deep understanding of Android architecture, UI/UX design patterns, and the mobile app lifecycle
  • Experience collaborating in cross-functional agile teams, working closely with product managers, designers, and QA engineers
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

The Roku Culture

Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We're independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV.

We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
