Skills
- 5+ years of hands-on Apache Spark with Scala (no PySpark)
- Extensive AWS EMR experience including fleet and instance optimization
- Proficiency with AWS Step Functions
- Strong Snowflake and Snowpark experience
- Deep understanding of distributed computing and resource management
- Experience debugging and tuning multi-terabyte daily workloads
- Familiarity with probabilistic data structures for high-cardinality processing
- Comfort working across Scala, Python, and SQL
Responsibilities
- Design and develop high-performance data pipelines using Scala/Spark on AWS EMR
- Build new features and data products while maintaining operational excellence
- Optimize pipelines for performance and cost efficiency
- Debug complex distributed system issues and perform root-cause analysis
- Implement comprehensive monitoring and observability from day one
- Write efficient Snowflake/Snowpark procedures across multiple languages
- Balance new development with continuous improvement and technical debt reduction
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred
- Advanced degree (MS/PhD) preferred but not required
- Relevant industry experience can substitute for formal education
