Spacecraft Systems Responsible Engineer

Relativity Space is building rockets and scaling toward interplanetary capability with the Terran R vehicle and an Interplanetary Program focused on faster, more affordable planetary science. The Spacecraft Systems Responsible Engineer will own end-to-end spacecraft bus definition, integration, and delivery, acting as the technical and programmatic focal point across internal teams and external vendors to ensure spacecraft-level requirements, interfaces, and performance budgets are defined and met throughout development, launch, and operations.

Skills

  • 7+ years in spacecraft or satellite systems engineering, integration, or mission design.
  • Strong understanding of spacecraft subsystems and their interdependencies (power, thermal, comms, ADCS, propulsion, mass).
  • Proven vendor management and customer-facing experience for complex systems.
  • Experience leading integration & test activities, launch campaigns, or mission operations.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and cross-functional leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end definition, integration, and delivery of the spacecraft bus and its interaction with mission payloads.
  • Define, track, and verify spacecraft-level requirements, interfaces, and performance budgets (power, mass, thermal, comms, ADCS, propulsion).
  • Coordinate and manage external spacecraft bus providers and other vendors through design, procurement, integration, test, launch, and operations.
  • Lead cross-functional teams during integration & test, launch campaigns, and early operations activities.
  • Maintain traceability of requirements, resolve interface issues, and ensure alignment between payload and spacecraft stakeholders.
  • Drive technical trade studies, risk assessments, and mitigation plans to meet mission objectives and schedules.

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline.
