As a Sr. AI Engineer, Backend, you’ll hone in on our backend AI technology on our r.AI team! You’ll be involved in the development of our AI agent systems that empower our merchants in our Rebuy Engine products and power AI shopping experiences. While you’ll be focused on backend (LangGraph, GCP, GKE, Redis, PostgreSQL, Cloudflare, CRDT/Yjs), there are opportunities to contribute through the entire tech stack to include: TypeScript, React, Next.js, NestJS, LangSmith. In this role, you’ll be a leader in expanding internal use of AI tools to include: Cursor, Claude Code, N8N, MCP.
Work with a small team building and launching a new product into the market.
Develop AI systems to include: Agentic Assistants, Generative UI, Search RAG, Tracing and Evals using LangSmith.
Engineer authentication and authorization across GCP hosted systems
Build a compelling and easy to maintain codebase with eye toward scalability
Technical member of our design partnerships that drive our customer focused product development
Leverage SOTA in Agentic systems to support company development processes such as CI/CD.

The Hard Skills:
Experience with LLM systems: Gemini, Claude, OpenAI, and/or other.
GCP or other cloud hosting platforms (AWS, Azure).
Kubernetes / GKE, Docker, and general containerized workflow experience
Hands on programming experience: TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, other
Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL / MySQL)
Memory stores and caching (Redis)
Version control (Git/Bitbucket/GitHub)
Workload Management tools (JIRA)
Networking/Security: Cloudflare, IAM, service accounts, secrets management, load balancers, JWT & OAuth
Monitoring & Ops Experience: Cloud Logging & Alerting and/or Prometheus/Grafana
AI Engineering tools like Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, etc.
It’d be great if you also had experience with:
LangGraph and/or other agentic frameworks
LangSmith, BrainTrust, Weights & Biases and/or tracing and eval systems
CRDTs / Sync frameworks: Yjs, Automerge, Loro
MCP server experience
Message Brokers/Queues: Pup/Sub, Kafka, RabbitMQ
GCP BigTable, BigQuery
Vector Databases: AlloyDB, Pinecone, FAISS, Spanner
Graph DB: Neo4J, otherHigh-throughput APIs: FastAPI, gRPC, GraphQL
Experience with payment systems, Stripe, other
eCommerce experience, Shopify, other

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The U.S. pay range for this position is $130,000 - $180,000 USD annually. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Your recruiter and hiring manager can share more about the specific salary range for the job location during the hiring process.
