We are seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead the design and development of our inventory data pipelines. At Pattern, we manage inventory at massive scale, and high-quality inventory data is foundational to how we plan, move, and optimize product placement across our network—ensuring the right inventory is in the right place, exactly when it’s needed.


What is a day in the life of a Data Engineer?
  • Collaborate with product management and stakeholders to understand the inventory data needs of the business and help shape the roadmap.
  • Promote data engineering best practices.
  • Guide and mentor a team of engineers in India.
  • Contribute to the evolution of our inventory data pipelines.


What will I need to thrive in this role?
  • 8+ years of professional experience.
  • Expertise in SQL, Spark, Airflow, and ETL pipelines.
  • Knowledge of data engineering best practices.
  • Really strong communication skills, including the ability to break down technical concepts for stakeholders and technical guidance for other engineers.


What is the team like?
  • The Principal Data Engineer will report to the VP of Engineering, who oversees engineering for Operations, Finance, and Marketplace Integrations. You will collaborate closely with other data engineering team members and two product managers (PMs). The team structure is distributed, including some engineers in the US and some engineers in India. All stakeholders and PMs are located in our Lehi, UT office.
