Responsibilities
- Provide clear client communication including status updates, pre/post-op instructions, medication guidance, and home care directions
- Educate clients on preventative medicine, vaccine schedules, lab procedures, and financial estimates
- Greet clients, escort pets to exam rooms, and promote hospital services and products
- Safely restrain animals and assist veterinarians with medical, surgical, and dental procedures
- Prepare patients for surgery, administer and monitor anesthesia, and provide post-op recovery care
- Administer fluids, perform injections (SQ, IM, IV), place IV catheters, and carry out emergency interventions
- Perform laboratory tests, radiographs, and electrocardiograms as directed
- Maintain accurate, paperless medical records for procedures, treatments, and billing
- Assist with pharmacy tasks including preparing prescription labels and packaging medications
- Maintain surgical materials, equipment, inventory, and ensure treatment areas are clean and ready
- Follow DEA, OSHA, and hospital safety guidelines at all times
Education
- Veterinary Technician diploma or associate degree preferred
- Licensed Veterinary Technician strongly preferred
- Relevant veterinary clinical training or certification
- Completion of on-the-job surgical and anesthesia training
