Job Description

The Sr. Revenue Lab Analyst reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

This position is responsible for the oversight of laboratory billing Epic tickets, reporting and related assigned account and claim edit work queues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Liaison between Lab Billing, Epic IT, finance, and various Northwestern Medicine departments.
  • Assist in triaging and working tickets related to lab charge codes for the system
  • Review and resolve lab billing edits in account and claim edit WQs..
  • Updates current lab standard operating procedures (SOP) for lab billing/finance team
  • Leads meetings and communicates effectively with department leaders, vendors and team partners
  • Provides the monthly lab revenue and expense reports for the system
  • Creates the monthly Pro Fee report for the central region
  • Shares the lab management stats with department leaders
  • Works independently and meet’s productivity level
  • Recommends solutions that add value to our monthly lab billing committee
  • Documents policies, procedures, and subsequent workflows/issue resolution
  • Maintains the Lab billing Database new clients and Corp Billing File monthly upload
  • Historical data extraction for risk, trending, and forecasting analysis of lab related information
  • Provides updated Fee Schedules to lab managers on a monthly basis
  • Analyze enterprise-wide data and provide explanations and recommendations for management
  • Follow up on account(s) to bring to resolution. Document all follow up activity in the patient accounting system. Obtain and submit additional information needed to get the claims resolved
  • Ensures timely and accurate lab billing
  • Follow write off protocol when appropriate
  • Recommend updates to lab epic systems and operational workflows to affect metric driven changes for the lab service line
  • Other duties as assigned

Professional Responsibility:

  • Completes all required educational/compliance-related courses prior to or on the due date.
  • Keeps reporting staff current with all required educational/compliance-related courses prior to or on the due date.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent relevant experience in addition to the position's minimum requirements.
  • Demonstrated expert of multiple lab revenue cycle operations and technical tools to support each function.
  • Expert ability to break down KPIs, data, and functions and recommend strategy for and/or implement improvement opportunities.
  • Works with low manager supervision to independently complete assigned projects with high quality results and in timely manner.
  • Expert in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and electronic health record software and demonstrated production of high-quality deliverables.
  • Demonstrated progressive success in previous roles, including but not limited to presenting findings, results, and recommendations to upper management.
  • Works well in a team environment.

Preferred:

  • 5+ years working with Lab Revenue Cycle applications in support of lab operations.
  • 2+ years of training junior staff and fostering a team environment.
  • Certified in Epic Beaker
  • Proven ability to determine recommended strategy and implement plans with high quality, measurable, and repeatable results.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, Tableau, PowerBI and/or IIS platforms.
