Pathology Team Lead

Neuralink is developing bi-directional brain interfaces to restore function and advance human-computer interaction. The Pathology Team Lead will build and operate a GLP-compliant pathology department spanning anatomic pathology, histology, digital pathology, and laboratory management to support preclinical studies, regulatory submissions, and device iteration.

Skills

  • Deep expertise in histopathology workflows (necropsy, grossing, embedding, microtomy, staining, imaging)
  • Experience managing technical teams in a regulated laboratory (GLP/GDP/SOPs)
  • Proven process-improvement and operational optimization skills
  • Strong scientific communication and report-writing for regulatory submissions
  • Familiarity with digital pathology, imaging analysis, and advanced modalities (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor Pathology Specialists and the Pathology Laboratory Manager across necropsy, histology, imaging, and operations
  • Oversee end-to-end pathology pipeline to ensure speed, quality, and GLP compliance
  • Synthesize and communicate study findings verbally and via contributing scientist reports to support regulatory submissions
  • Develop and implement novel analytical and high-throughput tissue interrogation techniques
  • Identify and drive pipeline/process optimization initiatives to reduce turnaround time and error rates
  • Participate in study design, initiation, and cross-functional coordination with Preclinical, Veterinary, and Animal Care teams
  • Lead investigations into tissue abnormalities and document root causes and corrective actions
  • Maintain documentation practices, support audits/inspections, and ensure regulatory readiness
  • Manage budgetary decisions for capital and non-routine items related to pathology operations
  • Monitor KPIs/KQIs, balance workload, and lead continuous quality improvement efforts

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Pathology, Biology, Neuroscience, or related field required
  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in related field preferred
  • Professional certification (e.g., HTL, PA, board certification) preferred
