Staff Data Pipeline Engineer
Skills
- Proven experience designing and operating real-time, event-driven data systems at scale.
- Production experience managing and scaling Kafka clusters and streaming jobs.
- Strong SQL skills and experience with analytical databases (Snowflake, ClickHouse).
- Proficiency in at least one backend language: Go, Python, or Java.
- Familiarity with multi-cloud environments (GCP and/or AWS) and associated managed services.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tooling (Datadog, Grafana, Monte Carlo, etc.).
- Experience with source control and CI/CD workflows for data infrastructure (Git, pipelines).
- Ability to write production-quality code and design fault-tolerant architecture.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and optimize high-performance, fault-tolerant streaming data pipelines using Kafka and downstream systems.
- Implement and maintain real-time pipelines integrating relational and non-relational stores (Snowflake, ClickHouse, MongoDB) for operational and analytical workloads.
- Refactor legacy data systems to improve performance, scalability, and reliability while protecting billing accuracy.
- Build and maintain observability, alerting, and data quality monitoring to detect issues before customer impact.
- Collaborate with SRE, software engineers, analysts, and systems admins to plan Kafka platform evolution and operational practices.
- Drive architectural decisions, evaluate tooling, and balance cost, performance, and maintainability.
- Create runbooks, documentation, and run operational exercises to ensure cross-team confidence and sustainability.
- Mentor other engineers on pipeline best practices, instrumentation, and data consumption patterns.
- Automate manual workflows and improve delivery, deployment, and CI/CD processes for data systems.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Advanced degree is a plus but not required.
