Overview:
Mastercard is looking for an experienced lawyer to be member of a highly skilled legal team. The Senior Managing Counsel, Financial Institutions role will provide legal support and counsel to Mastercard’s US region, the largest region at Mastercard.

Role:
• Joint responsibility for Issuer vertical within the US Region, including thought leadership and knowledge sharing across attorneys supporting the issuer side of the business.
• Relationship manager for Citi account team, responsible for day to day support and cross functional coordination on all matters affecting Citi globally
• Relationship manager for Commercial, Prepaid and JPMC account teams, responsible for day to day support across all matters affecting such US entities
• Requires collaboration with subject matter experts, including privacy counsel, IP counsel, product and service counsel, finance, sales and other stakeholder teams relating to US Region commercialization strategies for new products and services consistent with corporate strategy, internal policies and procedures and applicable laws and regulations.
• Advisor to management teams on the identification and analysis of complex legal issues and commercial risks
• Will provide on-going counsel on various business issues in addition to legal issues affecting the region, which will at times require "quarterbacking" an issue, project or deal and getting involved in issues outside of the role's immediate expertise
• Trusted advisor to the business clients on a daily basis with respect to wide-ranging issues.
• "Owner" of relationships with various business teams, helping to set and implement strategy for such teams

All About You:
• Proven experience working with complex legal transactions at a reputable law firm, or as an in-house counsel
• JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in the state of New York
• Strong drafting and negotiations skills with the ability to manage complex issues and deal structures
• Highly confident and a problem solver to be able to tackle unfamiliar situations
• Must be able to work independently and collaboratively and multi-task effectively in a fast-paced team environment
• Must have strong communication skills with clients and colleagues
• Must be a team player and willing to take on a variety of responsibilities and roles that support the team, department and the company

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more. Mastercard benefits for interns generally include: 56 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time; jury duty leave; and on-site fitness facilities in some locations.
