Mach Industries is seeking a talented Flight Sciences Intern to join our dynamic engineering team. This role involves supporting the design and optimization of various vehicle platforms, from air-breathing aircraft to missiles, particularly in the areas of aerodynamics and/or thermal management. The ideal candidate will leverage a deep understanding of first principles to enhance vehicle performance and ensure our products meet rigorous standards of efficiency and effectiveness.
Utilize a variety of hand calculations and low fidelity aerodynamic tools to provide rapid insight into vehicle design and flight test performance.
Operate high fidelity CFD software to support rigorous aerodynamic analysis of new and existing platforms.
Develop and integrate multidisciplinary analysis software for use in the initial sizing of Mach’s vehicles.
Conduct trade studies and optimization runs to provide design guidance in the conceptual design process.
Design, analyze, and optimize thermal management systems for Mach’s vehicles from system to component level.
Conduct thermal testing, including thermal cycling, environmental testing, and failure mode analysis.
Must be enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master’s degree program from an accredited college or university in aerospace engineering or other related engineering disciplines.
3+ months of applied engineering experience (internship, laboratory, and personal/team project experience is applicable).
Ability to work full-time onsite in Huntington Beach, CA.
GPA of 3.5 or above.
6+ months experience of application of technical skills outside of the classroom (examples: laboratory, research, extracurricular project teams, volunteering, personal projects or prior internship/work experience).
Proficiency in tools such as: XFOIL, XFLR5, OpenVSP, Missile Datcom, STAR-CCM+, Icepak.
Proficiency with scientific programming in high level language such as Python, C++, or MATLAB
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a professional team environment.
Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic startup environment.
Engineering problem solving capabilities.
Self-directed with a positive attitude and team spirit.
