Scientific Programmer - NBS Development Support

With a commitment to excellence and a passion for innovation, Lynker leverages cutting-edge technologies and scientific expertise to support the creation and delivery of improved operational weather forecasts. As part of our ongoing growth and expansion, we are seeking a talented Scientific Programmer to support the NBS Development Team at NOAA’s Office of Coast Survey. You will develop and enhance software workflows for bathymetric data ingestion, validation, and distribution, ensuring NOAA’s national bathymetry datasets remain accurate, scalable, and accessible. 

Responsibilities

Duties of the Scientific Programmer will include the following: 

  • Design and code software tools to support NBS workflows.
  • Automate data ingestion, deconfliction, and QC processes.
  • Implement scripts and APIs for managing bathymetric data.
  • Collaborate with NOAA scientists and GIS specialists on tool development.
  • Document code and contribute to operational playbooks. 

Qualifications

The Ideal Scientific Programmer will have the following: 

  • BS/BA in Computer Science, Oceanography, or related technical field
  • 6+ years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (Python, JavaScript; Fortran/Matlab a plus).
  • Experience with geospatial data formats (netCDF, HDF5, BAG, shapefiles).
  • Familiarity with NOAA hydrographic standards preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving and documentation skills.
