Job Description

  

Summary

The Sr. Material & Process Engineer will lead efforts in material selection, process development, and failure analysis to support advanced product development and manufacturing. Collaborate across engineering disciplines to ensure optimal material performance and process reliability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities will include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Identify, standardize, and qualify materials (metals, polymers, ceramics) for new and existing products.
  • Conduct material compatibility and performance testing under various environmental and operational conditions.
  • Develop and refine manufacturing processes such as brazing, welding, heat treatment, metalizing, plating, and surface finishing.
  • Implement process controls and statistical methods (SPC, DOE) to ensure repeatability and reliability.
  • Assist in failure investigation in evaluating the effect of the chemical composition and mechanical property of various materials.
  • Lead root cause investigations for material or process-related failures.
  • Recommend and implement corrective actions and preventive measures.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including process specifications, work instructions, and qualification reports.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO, ASME) and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with design, electrical and mechanical engineering operations, and quality teams to support product development and production.
  • Interface with suppliers to evaluate and qualify new materials and processes as required.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, performance enhancement, and sustainability.
  • Lead or support Lean Six Sigma and Kaizen initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience:

Master's degree (M.S.) in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field and 2-5 years of experience, or a bachelor's degree (B.S.) and 5-7 years of experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be accepted.

Desired Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of material properties and selection criteria.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes including brazing, welding, and heat treatment.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control and design of experiments.
  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ASTM, ISO, and ASME.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement methodologies.

Other Qualifications

  • US Citizenship
  • Ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.

Position may require one or more of the following (Site/CBU Specific):

U.S. Person for access to ITAR-Controlled Technical Data.

ITAR regulations dictate that information and material pertaining to defense and military related technologies may only be shared with US Persons unless authorization from the Department of State is received or a special exemption is used.

  

Salary Range:

$113,600.00-$151,400.000

The anticipated salary range listed for this role is only an estimate. Actual compensation for successful candidates is carefully determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, location, education/training, work experience, key skills, and type of position.
