Environmental Scientist, Entry Level - E0010

Felsburg Holt & Ullevig (FHU) is seeking a self-starting entry-level environmental scientist, ecologist, or biologist, with zero to two (0 to 3) years of experience. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse team of experts while gaining hands-on experience in environmental assessments, regulatory compliance, and technical analysis.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Perform site visits, field research, construction observation and plant identification (desirables and non-desirable), wetland determinations/delineations, noxious weed surveys, migratory bird surveys, acoustic surveys, wildlife habitat surveys, etc.
  • Support environmental (natural resources) compliance, permitting, consulting, studies, and/or mitigation compliance monitoring.
  • Assist with Clean Water Act Section 404 permitting with specific experience interacting with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and/or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Endangered Species Act Section 7 and 10 consulting/permitting).
  • Support NEPA studies, documentation, and reviews; environmental studies and permitting for the transportation industry.
  • Support public engagement, stakeholder interviews, data collection / analysis, mapping, and written documentation.
  • Write technical documents including reports, proposals, studies and supporting document deliverable activities.
  • Maintain quality standards as outlined in FHU’s quality manual
  • Identify appropriate vegetation for reclamation of habitats, disturbed sites, and urbanized areas.
  • Perform visual impact assessments and hazardous materials assessments
  • Conduct noise and air quality assessments in support of transportation projects.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data, preparing reports and technical documentation.
  • Must be comfortable working and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team that may include ecologists, traffic and design engineers, right of way agents, surveyors, archaeologists, historians, and planners, among others.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Biological Science, Ecology, Environmental Science, Geography, Natural Science, Natural Resources, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, or a closely related field.
  • Environmental field work experience.
  • Strong computer skills (especially Microsoft Office Suite, CADD, illustrations, modeling, GIS data collection and analysis, and/or mapping).
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team building and collaboration.

The pay for this position has a salary range of $70,000 - $85,000 Annually. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, and experience.
