GENERAL SUMMARY
 

Responsible for a variety of radiation protection functions, including plant problem analyses, licensing basis documents, implementation of large-scale radiation-protection-based projects, regulatory, EPRI and INPO interface or liaison assignments, instrumentation, dosimetry calculations, corrective action management, and performance improvement. Works independently and provides technical guidance and leadership within the assigned specialty. Serves in the capacity of Radiological Support Supervisor when absent and OCC RPM when necessary.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

The following are the principal accountabilities for this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive.

  • Provide a high level of technical health physics expertise and oversight to address operational and licensing tasks which periodically arise in radiation exposure monitoring, radiological control, respiratory protection, and dose reduction. Identify program impacts and make recommendations to management on necessary changes. Can serve as the subject matter expert for the company in multiple radiation protection disciplines.

  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and direction to other HP staff members, and consult with management to plan, develop, and implement strategic objectives. May serve as lead person or technical advisor on projects.

  • Develop, maintain, and implement radiation protection programs, policies, and procedures consistent with company policies and objectives.

  • Maintain Radiation Protection Program licensing requirements. Perform reviews and evaluations of department activities, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations, standards, and recommendations. Identify, recommend, and implement corrective actions as needed.

  • Analyze and evaluate radiation protection performance data and station exposure data to determine Radiation Protection Program effectiveness. Prepare technical procedures and reports based on the interpretation of analyzed data.

  • Apply comprehensive technical knowledge to identify and resolve radiological system problems and adverse trends, recommend solutions, and track resolution progress.

  • Independently perform and or lead assessment teams and issue reports to management.

  • Investigate and review radiological program procedures and recommend/initiate improvements to ensure equipment reliability, precision, and accuracy.

  • Accumulate, analyze, interpret, and report data on systems and instrumentation to management to provide a technical assessment of current operational status.

  • Participate in outage support and serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization.

  • Responsible for applying technical leadership over the program and teaching or mentoring other technical employees. Lead root cause or analyses teams for radiation protection issues.

  • Serve as Radiological Support Supervisor in their absence.


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma or GED and either NRRPT or American Board of Health Physics certification [Certified Health Physicist (CHP)] or 13 years of experience in applied radiation protection.


OR an Associate’s degree from an accredited college in in Health Physics, Engineering or closely related field and 11 years of experience in applied radiation protection.


OR a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Chemistry, Health Physics, Engineering or closely related field and 9 years of experience in applied radiation protection.

OR a Master of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Chemistry, Health Physics, Engineering or closely related field and 7 years of experience in applied radiation protection.

Pay Range

$122,681.00 - $184,021.00 Annual

Midpoint:

$153,351.00

Typically, selected candidates are hired between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience and qualifications, market rate, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.

Offers will be negotiated based on each candidate's qualifications.

Incentive Compensation

This role may be eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan. Incentives are earned based on employee performance against defined metrics and company goals.
