Role and Responsibilities:

The Strategic Retail Manager – Commercial Systems & Strategy will design and operate the analytical systems that underpin David’s retail business.

You will build and manage the quantitative models, reporting frameworks, and commercial tools that guide day-to-day decisions – from whether to participate in a secondary placement or promotion to evaluating the ROI of in-store displays. At a broader level, you will support marketplace decisions around promotions, pack architecture, and SKU optimization.

You will not only develop the models but also convert them into clear, data-backed outputs that can be shared with retailers – telling a disciplined, quantitative story about every SKU in the category, and how each opportunity compares to adding an additional David SKU. The ideal candidate brings a strong quantitative foundation and the ability to translate analytical work into actionable commercial insights.

Key Responsibilities:

Retail Analytics & Modeling

  • Integrate data: Aggregate syndicated data, retailer POS, and shipment information into a unified analytical framework that enables consistent, comparable insights across channels.
  • Build models: Develop and maintain the financial and commercial models used to evaluate SKU, pack, and channel performance. Ensure outputs can flex for pricing, promotion, and distribution scenarios.
  • Forecast and simulate: Partner with Finance to refine forecasting, scenario modeling, and account-level P&L visibility. Quantify potential outcomes of alternative price, pack, and promotional strategies.
  • Isolate performance drivers: Model annual sales performance of each SKU in the protein bar category at every key retailer to quantify the incremental contribution of adding an additional David SKU.

Revenue & Trade Strategy

  • Measure and evaluate: Use model outputs to quantify trade spend efficiency, promotional ROI, and price elasticity at both account and portfolio levels.
  • Test and optimize: Design and run controlled tests—such as promotions, pricing adjustments, or secondary placements—to validate assumptions and improve future investment decisions.
  • Guide commercial decisions: Provide structured, data-based recommendations on pricing architecture, promotional design, and pack configuration to maximize financial return and category growth.
  • Translate insights: Develop retailer-facing materials that communicate results clearly and outline the data-driven rationale behind promotional and pricing strategies to ensure mutual understanding and alignment.

Cross-Channel Systems & Process

  • Build and maintain the systems that connect Finance, Sales, and Operations.
  • Create repeatable reporting tools, dashboards, and templates that improve decision quality across channels.
  • Improve data accuracy, consistency, and scalability in retail reporting processes.

Retail Storytelling & External Outputs

  • Translate model outputs into clear, structured, retailer-ready presentations.
  • Build SKU-level opportunity narratives supported by data and category logic.
  • Support Joint Business Planning and category reviews with analytical materials that strengthen David’s position as a fact-based, disciplined partner.

Strategic Projects

  • New Product Commercialization: Lead the commercial planning and go-to-market execution for new items, including sell-in materials, distribution plans, and coordination with distributors and key retail partners. Ensure launch decisions are supported by data-based volume, pricing, and promotional models.
  • Retail Displays: Oversee strategy and execution for in-store displays, including catalog development, production planning, and inventory management. Build processes and forecasts that ensure displays are deployed efficiently and aligned with promotional objectives.
  • Sales Policy & Standards: Define and enforce trade practice standards, pricing controls, and MAP policies to protect brand equity, profitability, and channel consistency. Establish guardrails that maintain commercial discipline across accounts and channels.
  • 2+ years of experience in a quantitative or analytical role – investment banking, FP&A, data analytics, consulting, or CPG commercial strategy.
  • Fluency in Excel and financial modeling; proficiency with data tools.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving ability with attention to precision and structure.
  • Experience turning data into decision-ready outputs for commercial or executive audiences.
  • High level of ownership, organizational rigor, and ability to manage multiple concurrent work streams.
  • This is a full-time role that will require significant travel, as needed, to retail partners and relevant trade show events.
  • Compensation: $120-$195k per year, Compensation is inclusive of bonus. Ability to trade salary for equity compensation will be offered.
