Job Description

The Operations Manager coordinates activities related to the production of company products for one of our legacy manufacturing plants, located in Houston, TX. Reporting directly to the site director, responsibilities include labor scheduling, fabrication, and fulfillment of all orders within the manufacturing facility. Work in conjunction with safety, quality, purchasing, transportation, and production control. The Operations Manager is a leadership role, to ensure that the facility meets safety, quality, production, and cost objectives by performing the following duties. 

  • Collaborate with management to establish production and quality control standards, policies, and procedures based on KPI tracking, growth and sustainment. 

  • Ensure compliance with engineering specifications and certification agencies. 

  • Plan and direct production activities, setting priorities based on team member safety, performance, product quality, effective operations, customer service, and cost factors. 

  • Support strategic initiatives around inventory control, scrap reduction, and material utilization. 

  • Align production activities with strategies for continuous improvement around procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities. 

  • Analyze production control, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to identify non-conformities and operational issues using six-sigma, root cause analysis and similar tools. 

  • Familiar with D.M.A.I.C. process amongst other Lean tools for continuous improvement. 

  • Develop and implement operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality. 

  • Collaborate with support departments to adjust production schedules and priorities due to equipment failure or system issues. 

  • Partner with maintenance department to sustain Autonomous and preventive maintenance tasks to regarding machines and equipment modifications to enhance production and product quality. 

  • Support plant and company-wide continuous improvement efforts such as Kaizen events, Quick problem solving, Value Stream mapping among others. 

 

Qualifications

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Lifting Capacity – ability to lift up to 30 lbs. 

  • Mobility – prolonged periods of time on feet, standing, bending, etc. 

  • Exposure – moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and non-climate-controlled environment. 

  • Noise Tolerance – high noise levels. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Supervise, monitor, and manage the work of others to ensure tasks are completed accurately, efficiently, and on time. 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with an emphasis in manufacturing, engineering, or operations management; or associate degree in manufacturing, engineering, or operations management and/or have 5 to 7 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
