The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Division of Environmental Health works to prevent and control illness and injury related to environmental and occupational health risks through outreach, education, surveillance and enforcement. With staff of 1,000, the Division covers a broad range of subject matter, including oversight of environmental investigations, lead poisoning, injury prevention, occupational health, food safety, childcare, radiation control, recreational and drinking water quality, air quality, climate health, vector control, veterinary public health and pest control. DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO
-Serve as community liaison for the prevention of rabies, animal bites and the benefits of licensing your pets.
-Organize and provide training on the safe handling of animals by children and adults.
-Coordinate, track and triage animal bites reported by hospitals emergency rooms, urgent care, private medical practices, and other agencies.
-Maintain files and databases of such incidents.
-Provide advice, services, and information on how to manage aggressive animals
- Provide written response to public inquires on illegal pets menacing animals, stray animals, reported complaints and conditions that may lead to nuisances.

Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
