Join our dynamic team at the Office of Design and Construction, within the Transportation Planning and Management Division. We lead professional engineering oversight for curb line geometry and street plans across New York City's five Boroughs. Our responsibilities extend to project and contractor management, as well as the implementation of pavement markings for Street Improvement Projects, marking after resurfacing, and street refurbishments. With oversight of 11 construction contracts valued at several million dollars and responsibility for overseeing the installation of 60 million linear feet (MLF) of markings per year, our mission is to enhance the safety and functionality of city streets, aligning with crucial initiatives such as Vision Zero and other city goals. The NYC Department of Transportation’s Construction Unit is seeking a motivated and organized individual to oversee the Bronx Markings Team. The selected candidate will manage field operations, contractor oversight, and staff supervision to ensure pavement marking projects are completed accurately, safely, and on schedule. Responsibilities include developing and managing the Bronx Team’s workflow, prioritizing Street Improvement Projects (SIPs), Markings after Resurfacing (RRM), Agency Requests, and Mayoral Safety Initiatives, and maintaining accurate data within the Work Order Management System. The candidate will coordinate closely with RRM, the Borough Commissioner’s Office, and internal stakeholders to resolve conflicts, improve efficiency, and ensure all materials and field methods meet agency standards and specifications.
This position requires collaboration with the Quality Assurance team to confirm that thermoplastic, MMA, gravel, and epoxy materials meet the required standards. The candidate will monitor contractor performance and field safety practices, conduct regular team and contractor meetings to address issues, and ensure compliance with the City and contract requirements. Additional duties include supervising Inspectors, monitoring time and performance, supporting payment processing through quality control reviews, and representing the Construction Unit at coordination meetings with other DOT units and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate should be proactive, detail-oriented, and team-focused, with strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as a commitment to enhancing work zone safety and operational excellence throughout the program.

Preferred Skills:
The preferred candidate should be proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel. Knowledge of traffic calming, urban design, pedestrian-oriented design, complete streets, and project management required. Excellent writing, editing, and oral presentation skills are a must.
Supervisor with experience managing both Planning and Operational Units. Experience working with and managing consultants and/or contractors doing transportation planning, design, and project Implementation.

TRAFFIC CONTROL INSPECTOR - 31715
1. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization, and two years of full time satisfactory experience in vehicular traffic regulation and control or in conducting traffic studies; or
2. An Associate of Applied Science degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering technology, urban studies, urban planning, mathematics or another
closely related field; or
3. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and a satisfactory combination of experience and/or college education that is equivalent to that described in "1" or "2" above. College credits obtained from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credits for one year of full time experience. However, for every 30 semester credits that are substituted for one year of full time experience, at least 6 of the 30 semester credits must be in engineering technology, urban studies, urban planning, mathematics or other closely related field.
License Requirements
Must possess a motor vehicle driver license, valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Requirements for Assignment Level II
To be considered for assignment to Assignment Level II, candidates must have, in addition to meeting the Qualification Requirements above: one additional year of fulltime satisfactory experience working in Assignment Level I; or one additional year of
full time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above for a total of three years of experience. Such experience must include supervising the regulation of vehicular traffic or the conduct of traffic studies.
Requirements for Assignment Level III
To be considered for assignment to Assignment Level III candidates must have, in addition to meeting the Qualification Requirements above: two additional years of
full time satisfactory experience working in Assignment Levels I and II for a total of four years of experience; or two additional years of full time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above, at least one of which must have been in supervising vehicular traffic regulation and control or in conducting traffic studies.
