The Manager of Accessible Services, under general policy direction of the Director of Taxis, Access & Mobility Services, provides strategic leadership to ensuring the accessibility of San Francisco’s transportation system. This role oversees one of the largest paratransit programs in the Bay Area and leads systemwide initiatives to expand mobility options for seniors and individuals with disabilities. The Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), shaping capital program priorities, and fostering collaboration with community stakeholders, while balancing fiscal responsibility and high-quality service delivery.
Accessible Services:
The SFMTA Accessible Services Program ensures that San Francisco's transportation system is accessible for older adults and individuals with disabilities by overseeing services such as fixed-route transit, paratransit, and emerging mobility options, meet or exceed relevant accessibility standards. This includes oversight of the Paratransit program, monitoring fixed route accessibility, providing input on the accessibility of streets and transit capital projects, shaping expectations for emerging mobility services, and operating the Regional Transit Connection (RTC) Discount ID Card office to support reduced fares. Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; AND
Experience: Five (5) years of professional-level experience in transportation related services or a related field interpreting and/or monitoring and/or enforcing accessibility legislation such as the Americans with Disabilities Act. Professional-level experience consists of interpreting laws and regulations, and/or exercising independent judgment in the application of defined principles, practices, and regulations; and three (3) years supervising professional-level staff.
Substitution: Additional qualifying professional-level experience in transportation related services or a related field interpreting and/or monitoring and/or enforcing accessibility legislation such as the Americans with Disabilities Act may be substituted for the required education in Minimum Qualifications on a year-for-year basis. One year (2000 hours) of qualifying experience will be considered equivalent to thirty (30) semester units/forty-five (45) quarter units.
Note: the required three (3) years of experience supervising professional-level staff need not be in addition to the five (5) years of professional-level experience in the required functional area.
