About Pratham

Founded in 1995 to provide education to children in Mumbai slums, Pratham (meaning "first" in Sanskrit) has evolved into one of India's largest and most effective non-governmental education organizations. We collaborate with governments, communities, parents, teachers, and volunteers, employing innovative interventions to address educational gaps. Our mission, "every child in school and learning well," is the driving force behind our efforts to impact the lives of India's children, from leadership to field teams.

Operating in 21 of India's 29 states, Pratham reaches millions of children and youth annually, spanning from Kashmir to Tamil Nadu. Our methodologies have transcended borders through ASER (Annual Status of Education Report), India's largest citizen-led assessment, inspiring similar assessments in fourteen countries worldwide.

Pratham USA relies on dedicated volunteers and operates through 13 chapters across the United States. These chapters raise awareness and financial support for our initiatives on the ground. With a prestigious four-star rating from Charity Navigator, placing us in the top 3% of all nonprofits in the nation, we demonstrate responsible financial practices, unwavering accountability, and transparent operations.

The Role

The Manager, Strategic Partnerships advances Pratham USA’s mission by growing, managing, and stewarding a portfolio of individual donors and prospects with the capacity to contribute $25,000 or more annually. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Partnerships, the Manager, Strategic Partnerships will design and execute moves-management strategies, craft compelling proposals in collaboration with Philanthropy Operations, and partner with chapter leaders and regional fundraisers to meet shared revenue goals.

This role is ideal for a strategic, relationship-driven fundraiser who thrives on building authentic partnerships and translating impact into investment.

Impact Areas

Portfolio Growth & Strategy

  • Build and manage a qualified portfolio of major gift prospects and donors contributing $25,000 or more.
  • Create individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans; maintain disciplined moves-management and regular pipeline reviews.
  • Advance toward annual goals for revenue, solicitations, meetings, and outreach, with targets established collaboratively with the Director of Strategic Partnerships.
  • Identify, qualify, and prioritize new prospects through research, networks, events, and chapter referrals.

Donor Engagement & Solicitation

  • Conduct discovery, cultivation, and solicitation meetings to align donor interests with Pratham’s priorities.
  • Prepare tailored cases for support, proposals, presentations, and impact reports in partnership with Philanthropy Operations, Programs, and Communications.
  • Lead or support closing strategies for renewals, upgrades, multi-year commitments, and planned giving inquiries in partnership with senior staff.

Stewardship & Reporting

  • Deliver high-touch stewardship, including customized updates, recognition, and impact reporting aligned to donor intent.
  • Maintain accurate CRM (Salesforce) records: contact reports, proposal stages, forecasts, revenue tracking, and next steps.
  • Monitor and communicate portfolio progress, risks, and opportunities; contribute to quarterly and annual planning.

Cross-Functional & Chapter Collaboration

  • Partner with regional development teams and chapter leaders to coordinate outreach, events, and donor experiences.
  • Collaborate with Programs to translate budgets and learning outcomes into donor-facing materials.
  • Share best practices and insights to enhance a learning culture within the development team.
  • Support corporate engagement alongside the Director of Strategic Partnerships as needed (e.g., introductions, event hosting, matching gifts).
    • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant certifications a plus.
    • 4–7 years of progressive fundraising, business development, or client relationship management experience; demonstrated success in securing five- and six-figure gifts.
    • Strong storytelling and communication skills—written and verbal—with the ability to present complex programmatic work clearly and persuasively.
    • Proficiency with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred), MS Office/Google Workspace, and budget interpretation.
    • Organized and self-directed, with excellent project management and follow-through in a fast-paced, distributed environment.
    • Passion for education equity and alignment with Pratham’s mission and values; cultural humility and global mindset.

Attributes for Success

  • Strategic thinker with strong execution and accountability.
  • Confident, empathetic relationship builder comfortable making direct asks.
  • Collaborative team player who shares information, seeks feedback, and contributes to collective goals.

This full-time, exempt position offers competitive compensation and benefits aligned with the U.S. social impact sector.
