Ubuntu Software Engineer
Skills
- Proven programming experience in one or more: Rust, Go, Python, Flutter or C/C++
- Experience with packaging and distribution (Debian packaging, Snap)
- Familiarity with Linux systems and distribution engineering
- Knowledge of build systems, toolchains and cross-compilation
- Experience with automation, CI/CD and testing infrastructure
- Strong written and spoken English and remote collaboration skills
- Ability to travel twice yearly for team events (up to two weeks each)
Responsibilities
- Design, implement and ship systems and applications in Rust, Go, Python and Flutter
- Package, integrate, test and upload open source software to the Ubuntu repositories
- Debug system-level issues and deliver robust, production-ready solutions
- Build and maintain automation and CI/CD pipelines for building, testing and shipping Ubuntu
- Contribute upstream to neighboring open source projects and maintain technical documentation
- Collaborate with globally distributed teams and participate in periodic in-person sprints
- Mentor colleagues and contribute to team processes and improvements
- Work on distro engineering tasks including repository maintenance, upgrades and distribution integration
Education
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a STEM subject, or an equivalent demonstrated alternative path
- Strong academic track record at high school and university or a compelling practical experience portfolio
- Professional written and spoken English proficiency
