Engineering Manager, Android SDK

Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) is the world’s largest telematics service provider. Its mission is to make the world’s roads and drivers safer. The company’s AI-driven platform, DriveWell Fusion®, gathers sensor data from millions of IoT devices — including smartphones, proprietary Tags, connected vehicles, dashcams, and third-party devices — and fuses them with contextual data to create a unified view of vehicle and driver behavior. Auto insurers, automakers, commercial mobility companies, and the public sector use insights from CMT’s platform to power risk assessment, safety, claims, and driver improvement programs. Headquartered in Cambridge, MA, with offices in Budapest, Chennai, Seattle, Tokyo, and Zagreb, CMT measures and protects tens of millions of drivers across the world every day.

At the heart of our technology is the CMT Mobile SDK, embedded in millions of mobile apps and responsible for collecting, processing and sending high-fidelity sensor data from smartphones and connected hardware. This SDK enables real-time telematics features and drives a majority of CMT’s SaaS revenue.

We are seeking a hands-on, impact-driven Engineering Manager to lead our Android SDK team, which includes talented developers in both Cambridge, MA and Budapest, Hungary.

This role is ideal for someone with deep Android expertise who enjoys growing high-performing teams, writing high-quality software, and owning strategic initiatives that directly influence the success of a global, data-driven platform in a mission-driven company.

CMT is looking for a collaborative, customer-committed, and creative Engineering Manager, Android SDK who wants to join us in making roads safer by making drivers better!

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a geographically distributed team of high-caliber Android engineers & QAs in Cambridge and Budapest

    • Be a technical resource to the team — especially during onboarding and critical projects
    • Translate business needs into engineering priorities and manage project execution across time zones
    • Drive planning, retrospectives, and delivery of roadmap items with high predictability and velocity
    • Track SDK adoption, integration health, and release quality with metrics that drive improvements
    • Partner with stakeholders and other engineering teams to accelerate innovation and reduce operational friction
    • Complete any additional tasks as they arise

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience and/or certification in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or Engineering preferred
7+ years of professional software development experience, with a focus on Android or mobile platforms
    • 2+ years of engineering management experience, including distributed team leadership and leading QA
•Strong expertise in Kotlin, Android frameworks, lifecycle management, and mobile observability
•Experience developing and maintaining SDKs or mobile platforms used by external developers is a major plus
•Strong cross-functional communication and the ability to partner with technical and non-technical teams
•Track record of delivering reliable, high-impact software in an agile environment
•Comfortable being hands-on when needed, especially to lead by example or during team ramp-up

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Fair and competitive salary based on skills and experience, and annual performance bonus
Equity may be awarded in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs)
Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance, matching 401k, short-term & long-term disability and parental leave
Unlimited Paid Time Off including vacation, sick days & public holidays
