Ball State University’s Learning Center in University College invites applications for a Learning Center Tutoring Coordinator, a 10-month Professional position.What you'll do and what you'll bring:
Position Function: The Learning Center Tutoring Coordinator manages the appointment-based tutoring program and satellite drop-in tutoring program in the Learning Center. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: recruit, hire, train, schedule, observe, mentor, supervise and evaluate approximately 100 undergraduate student tutors and graduate assistants; conduct the daily operation of a large tutoring program and provides assessment and campus outreach. 10-month Professional position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Recruit, hire, train, schedule, observe, mentor, supervise and evaluate undergraduate tutors and graduate assistants; analyze data each year to determine supply and demand of tutoring services within budget constraints; work with graduate assistants to observe and mentor tutors.
2. Provide orientation and International Tutor Training Certification training (through the College Reading and Learning Association) for all tutorial staff.
3. Management of daily operations including: handle time-off requests, ensure smooth flow of operations at the Tutoring Desk (check-in, appointment scheduling), schedule changes, and troubleshoot any concerns from tutors, desk assistants, graduate assistants, faculty, and pertinent staff.
4. Utilize tutor management software to schedule tutors and produce usage reports on a weekly, semester, and yearly basis; train student staff how to access and use tutor management software.
5. Coordinate all aspects of Satellite Drop-In Tutoring, including hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision.
6. Support Director and Assistant Director with developing and delivering orientation and training activities for Learning Center tutors.
7. Collaborate with academic departments across campus to provide appropriate academic support to Ball State students; participate in outreach efforts to campus partners that may include classroom visits to market tutoring services; work with faculty to accept referrals for tutors.
8. Work collaboratively with the Learning Center Assistant Director to promote the tutoring program through campus announcements and presentations, classroom visits, brochures and other handouts, and digital communication.
9. Maintain professional knowledge of best practices in theories and models of college learning and academic success strategies, including typical barriers that exist and important resources needed for college students to become successful.
10. Work with other Learning Center staff in assessment of services and attainment of professional certifications. Conduct assessments throughout the semester and at the end of each semester and academic year to assess the tutoring program, including usage data, grade outcomes, student satisfaction, retention, and on-time graduation, in order to report on program efficacy.
11. Collaborate with all Learning Center full-time staff to develop, assess, and market programs and services.
12. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Earned bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Supervisory experience; at least two years of experience with academic support programs in higher education as a tutor, supplemental instruction leader, academic coach, graduate assistant, or professional
Evidence of superior writing, communications, and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Earned master's degree from an accredited institution
Experience administering learning assistance and/or peer tutoring programs in higher education
Experience utilizing appointment-making, scheduling, and reporting software
