Job Description

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

  • Act as contact point for stakeholders outside of the immediate function, while building a network of contacts outside team and external to the organisation.

It’s an exciting opportunity to develop microservices that ensure seamless client experiences, strengthen system performance, and help drive innovation across our digital products.

To be successful as a Junior Java Backend Developer, you should have experience with:

  • Core Java development and Spring Boot frameworks

  • Building enterprise-grade microservices with performance and scalability in mind

  • Working with Oracle databases, ORM frameworks such as Hibernate, and REST API integration

  • Debugging and resolving backend issues efficiently

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Familiarity with containerization platforms such as OpenShift

  • Understanding of Domain-Driven Design, Test-Driven Development, and Continuous Integration principles

  • Awareness of CI/CD pipelines and their role in improving development workflows

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in this role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

This role is located in Whippany, New Jersey.

Minimum Salary: $75,000

Maximum Salary: $135,000

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above includes only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.

Barclays employees are eligible for a suite of competitive and generous employee benefits, including medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k), life insurance, and other paid leave for qualifying circumstances.

This position is eligible for an incentive award.
