PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Vice President of Marketing serves as a key member of the resort’s senior leadership team and is responsible for helping shape the long-term vision, brand position, and strategic growth of Deer Valley Resort. This role provides direction and leadership for all marketing strategies, communications, community engagement, events, sponsorships, and guest experience research while ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, Alterra Mountain Company strategies, and exceptional guest service standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership & Growth
Partner with the President, Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and Alterra Mountain Company to define and advance the resort’s long-term strategic direction.
Lead the development of a comprehensive, multi-year marketing and communication strategy designed to support guest growth, brand strength, business goals, and revenue performance.
Integrate data-driven insights, industry trends, process enhancements, and competitive intelligence into Deer Valley marketing and strategic planning.
Champion cross-departmental collaboration, ensuring alignment between marketing, resort business units, and partners across Alterra.
Marketing & Brand Management
Provide executive oversight of brand positioning, creative direction, messaging, and content strategy to ensure a cohesive and compelling Deer Valley brand.
Oversee development and execution of annual marketing plans, campaigns, and activations across paid, earned, owned, and shared channels.
Partner with Retail leadership to develop and curate product offerings that reflect, reinforce, and elevate the Deer Valley brand.
Communications Leadership
Provide executive oversight on all external communications, media relations, public relations, and crisis communications to protect and enhance the Deer Valley brand.
Partner with the Director of Communications (DOC) on all internal communications strategies to strengthen organizational culture, increase transparency, and support staff engagement across the resort.
Oversee the guest feedback system to include platform management, monitoring, reporting and insights, and response consistency frameworks to ensure timely, accurate, and brand-aligned communication with guests.
Community Engagement & Giving
Lead community engagement initiatives, nonprofit partnerships, and community giving programs to ensure Deer Valley remains an active, responsible, and well-regarded community partner.
Represent the resort on local boards, committees, and stakeholder groups, fostering collaboration and community goodwill.
Events, Experiential Marketing & Sponsorship
Provide executive oversight of the resort’s event strategy, including large-scale activations, community events, partner initiatives, and on-mountain experiences.
Lead experiential marketing efforts to enhance brand storytelling through physical and interactive guest-facing experiences across the resort.
Oversee sponsorship strategy and fulfillment with the Events and Sponsorship team to drive brand alignment and incremental value in collaboration with the Alterra team.
Operational & Team Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of senior marketing, communications, and community leaders, cultivating a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Oversee divisional budgets, financial planning, and monthly performance tracking in partnership with Finance.
Ensure effective vendor management, contract oversight, and agency leadership across marketing, communications, events, experiential, and sponsorship partners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 10 years of senior leadership experience in resort, hospitality, tourism, destination marketing, or related fields.
Proven experience in leading comprehensive marketing, communications, and community engagement strategies.
Demonstrated success in developing long-range strategic plans, driving company growth, and guiding complex, cross-functional initiatives.
Expertise in media relations, crisis communications, internal communications, and digital marketing strategy.
Strong history of community involvement and ability to work effectively with nonprofit partners, community leaders, and government officials.
Experience overseeing events, sponsorships, experiential marketing initiatives, and community giving programs is preferred.
Intermediate to advanced skiing ability required.
