Role Summary

The Engineer provides world-class customer service while keeping safety and compliance the top priorities. This individual contributor, as part of the Engineering department, works with a team to make recommendations to improve and establish complex preventative maintenance procedures and reliability improvements in the interest of safety, cost reduction, and fleet maintenance at Alaska Airlines (AS)

Key Duties

  • Take initiative to develop solution to complex repairs, alterations, and maintenance specifications and provide engineering assistance to all departments within the Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) division.
  • Make recommendations on preventative maintenance procedures and reliability improvements for safety, cost reduction, and fleet maintenance improvements.
  • Provide aircraft maintenance solutions while maintaining configuration compliance.
  • Oversee and lead the processes for acceptance of aircraft delivery.
  • Provide engineering assistance to the Aircraft On Ground (AOG) engineering and technical services group through analysis of aircraft interiors in-service difficulties.
  • Review service bulletins, service letters, and airworthiness directives and recommend action.
  • Work with limited direction from manager to develop and resolve issues with engineering controls, along with supporting documents, drawings, and manual revisions to accomplish repairs and alterations to aircraft interior systems.
  • Investigate problems and propose modifications, evaluate proposal merits, and recommend solutions.
  • Review and update project tasks, schedule, and change requests in the engineering department’s project and change management system.
  • Review and approve PMA (Part Manufacturer Approval) parts.
  • Provide approval for part configuration – interchangeability, installation and efficiency.
  • Develop and revise ASA engineering drawings.
  • Discuss and demonstrate compliance to FAA part 121 and 25 regulations.
  • Review reliability data to ensure effectiveness of maintenance programs and to develop preventive maintenance actions.
  • Stay abreast of state-of-the-art and technical developments affecting aircraft interiors.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 2 years of experience in aerospace, mechanical engineering or related experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Aircraft Interiors experience.
  • Strong Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, operating policies, and procedures.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of aircraft interiors (Airbus A320 and Boeing 737NG/MAX preferred).
  • Ability to learn Alaska Airlines Maintenance and Project & Change Management Systems.
  • Strong analytical and complex problem-solving ability, particularly in identifying fleet issues and trends.
  • Ability to meet assigned project deadlines with self-directed decision-making confidence.
  • Excellent communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening), presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation.
  • Detail oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Project management experience.
  • Aircraft Interiors certification experience.

Salary Range

$91,200 -- $136,800 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

 

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.

Airport SIDA Badge Requirements

Important notification for employees working at an airport or maintenance hangar: Employees will be required to obtain a SIDA badge provided by the airport authority and maintain good standing in order to keep their SIDA badge.
