Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Traffic/ Safety Engineer to join our dynamic Traffic team in the Greater Pennsylvania area, specifically Conshohocken or Philadelphia, PA.

In this role, you will focus on project and technical management, technical leadership, stakeholder engagement, and business development.  You will collaborate with clients, internal stakeholders, and external partners to plan, design, and manage the successful execution of a wide array of traffic engineering and safety initiatives.

Responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Develop marketing strategies/plans, anticipate opportunities, and identify market trends in surface transportation safety.
  • Develop and implement regional and national road safety strategies aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements in alignment with AECOM priorities.
  • Lead efforts to integrate safety principles into transportation planning, design, and operations.
  • Oversee multidisciplinary teams in delivering high-impact safety projects, including Vision Zero initiatives, crash analysis, and roadway design improvements.
  • Provide technical oversight and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reviews on traffic studies, construction documents, and design packages.
  • Lead traffic engineering and safety studies, including traffic impact analysis, signal design, and microsimulation.
  • Conduct roadway safety audits and assessments, crash data analysis, and predictive modeling to inform decision-making
  • Collaborate with marketing and business development teams to position AECOM as a leader in road safety.
  • Identify opportunities for growth, support proposal development, and expand AECOM’s road safety portfolio.
  • Support business development, proposal writing, and client engagement.
  • Support the professional development of engineers and safety specialists. Mentor staff and coordinate workload planning.
  • Oversee project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Promote innovation, sustainability, and equity in the delivery of civil and traffic engineering solutions.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS + 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Professional Engineer license in Pennsylvania (or if licensed in another state, the ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • Experience using traffic simulation software such as VISSIM, Synchro, Sidra, and/or HCS.
  • Demonstrated track record developing client relationships and leading project pursuits.
  • Experience in technical execution of tasks for traffic engineering projects with an emphasis on safety analysis and microsimulation/modeling of all modes of transportation and facility types
  • Valid US Driver’s License required, as a condition of employment must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review. 
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE)
  • Road Safety Professional (RSP) Certification
  • 15 years of experience in the traffic engineering discipline.
  • Experience in managing a team of other transportation professionals
  • Experience in proposal development and other business development activities
  • Active in professional and industry organizations
